The character ™Â (manji), since feudal days the historic crest of the Tsugaru clan, has the meanings of charity and harmony and symbolizes good fortune and virtue. It was adopted as the city emblem of the former Hirosaki in June 1900. Following the merger on February 27, 2006 that resulted in the new Hirosaki,the character ™Âwas formally declared as the city emblem for the new city on November 15 later that year. |

Hirosaki's cherry blossoms put on the finest show in the nation. About 2 million visitors from all over Japan flock to the Cherry Blossom Festival that is held in Hirosaki Park from April 23 to May 5. Following the merger on February 27, 2006 that resulted in the new Hirosaki, the Cherry blossom was formally declared as the city fl ower for the new city on November 15 later that year. |

Apples are said to have excellent health and beauty benefits. Twenty percent of all apples in Japan are grown in Hirosaki-more than 160,000 tons, the highest production by volume in Japan. Following the merger on February 27, 2006 that resulted in the new Hirosaki, the Apple was formally declared as the city tree for the new city on November 15 of that year. |
