Nature
Hirosaki is surrounded by a splendid natural landscape that can be enjoyed in all four seasons.
Mt.Iwaki
Designated a Quasi–National Park in 1975. At 1,625 meters, it is the highest mountain in Aomori Prefecture. Its cone is vaguely shaped like a trident. Because of its gentle, symmetrical slope it is often compared to Mt.Fuji. The mountain is worshiped as the physical manifestation of a divine presence. |
Hirosaki Park
The symbol of Old Hirosaki, it contains the remains of the castle where the old Lords of Tsugaru had their residence and houses many other assets of great cultural value. Because it provides a breathing space away from the bustle of the modern age, it is beloved by Hirosaki citizens and tourists alike. |
Hirosaki Apple Park
This park has been planted with 1,200 apple trees of 65 different varieties. It also has corners where visitors can easily pick up knowledge and information about apples and buy apples and other products. |
Screen Rock
A mysteriously shaped rock, about 600 meters wide and 100 meters high, that affords a spectacular view in all four seasons. So called because it looks exactly like a huge chamber screen carved out of stone. |
The Longest Cherry–Blossom Lane in the World
Imagine 20 kilometers of road lined with 6,500 trees of the same species–the Sargent cherry. From the end of April to the beginning of May the soft pink of the blossoms against the luscious green of the trees offer a spectacular sight to anyone fortunate enough to use this road. |
Cherry–Blossom Grove
After the sacred garden of the Mt. Iwaki Shrine was planted with cherry blossoms of the delicate Somei Yoshino variety, it became a favorite place to view the blossoms in spring. The grounds allow for outdoor activities, and the presence of cooking facilities makes picnicking here a popular pastime. Toilets are also provided. |
Yayoi Ikoi Recreation Park
The grounds of this park are spread out on the gently sloping side of Mt. Iwaki. Highland House features a restaurant and a lounge, and among the other facilities are a picnic area, a zoo and an auto–camping site. |
Children's Forest
This forest has a playground and a campsite, while the botanical garden and the exhibition in its visitors' center give children an opportunity to study the lives of amphibians, fish, and plants. |
